Frequently Asked Questions

Get answers to common questions about Double Helix.

Cartilage healing for a Double Helix usually takes 3–6 months for initial closure and up to 12 months for full maturation. Expect tenderness and swelling early; following aftercare will speed recovery and reduce risk of complications.

Discomfort varies by person, but cartilage piercings like the Double Helix are usually quick and sharp during the procedure, then mild to moderate soreness afterward. Our technique, numbing options, and experienced piercers keep pain low and recovery manageable.

We include two 316 surgical steel pieces for consistent healing and recommend keeping them in for the initial healing period. You can switch to your own jewelry only after a full healing assessment by our piercer, typically several months post-piercing.

Clean twice daily with saline or our recommended saline spray, avoid touching or rotating the jewelry, keep hair and products away, sleep on opposite side, and report redness, heat, or unusual discharge. Follow our checklist for best healing results.

We provide 316 surgical steel initially, then offer titanium and implant-grade options after healing. Sizes and styles vary—studs, mini-hoops, and micro-rings—so our piercer will recommend diameter and gauge based on your anatomy and desired stacked look.

It depends on scar tissue and ear anatomy. Book a consultation so our piercer can assess tissue integrity and placement options. In some cases we can adapt placement or advise waiting; safety and proper healing are our top priorities.
